Accomodations and Meals

Kimmirut’s one hotel, The Kimik Hotel (www.innsnorth.com), is owned and operated by the Kimik Co-op Ltd. and is located above the Co-op store. It can accommodate 16 guests in eight twin rooms, but the summer season can be busy so book well in advance. The hotel also has a restaurant and will prepare meals for other visitors given advance notice.

The community’s Hunters and Trappers Association (HTO) will arrange homestays for guests to stay and eat with a local family. Phone the HTO at 867-939-2355 for more information.

Group dinners can be arranged by the Community Economic Development Officer by phoning 867-939-2247 or through the HTO. Depending on preferences, local delicacies such as Arctic char, caribou stew, bannock, as well as more “southern fare” like salads, rolls and fish cakes can be prepared for groups. The more adventurous may try a taste of walrus if it is available! The group dinners may also include viewings of traditional Inuit clothing.

There is a new campsite at the edge of the community – Taqaisivik Campground – complete with a picnic table, fire pit and grill, two washrooms and fresh water available a short walk away. Contact the Katannilik Visitors’ Centre for more information at 867-939-2416.
